🇨🇭 Lucerne
Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke)

Built in 1333 — among the oldest covered bridges in Europe. A 1993 fire from a cigarette dropped on a moored boat destroyed 78 of its 110 painted ceiling panels.
One of Europe's oldest covered wooden bridges, first documented in the 14th century (commonly cited around 1365). The triangular paintings inside the gables tell the history of Lucerne — most are replicas, since the originals were lost in a 1993 fire.
The adjacent octagonal Water Tower (Wasserturm) has variously been a treasury, archive, prison, and torture chamber.
