Passage des Panoramas

Built 1799, it was one of the world's first covered shopping arcades β a 19th-century version of a mall, with a glass roof when glass roofs were brand new technology.
Step through an unmarked arch off Boulevard Montmartre and you're suddenly in 1820 β a glass-roofed arcade lined with philatelists, antique prints, and bistros that look untouched in a century. Walk its length and continue across to Passage Jouffroy and Passage Verdeau for a near-mile of covered strolling that's a lifesaver on a rainy afternoon. Stop at Stern (antique stationery) and Canard et Champagne for a glass.
