Old Jewish Cemetery & Josefov
historymust-seephoto spotcalm-pace
About 100,000 burials stacked up to 12 layers deep โ Prague's Jewish community was forbidden from expanding the cemetery and just kept adding fresh earth on top.
Active from 1439 to 1787, with up to twelve layers of burials packed into a tiny plot โ the stones now lean and overlap into a sea of stone. The combined Jewish Town ticket also gets you into the Pinkas Synagogue (walls inscribed with the names of 80,000 Czech Holocaust victims), the Spanish Synagogue, and the Maisel and Klausen synagogues. Closed Saturdays. Plan two to three hours and go in the morning.
