Brewing on this spot since 1499. It pours a single beer, a dark 13° lager you cannot get anywhere else, and at 1,200 seats it is the largest restaurant in the Czech Republic.

A centuries-old beer hall that brews a single beer and has been doing it longer than almost anyone in Europe. Founded in 1499, U Fleků pours one dark 13° lager ("Flekovský Tmavý Ležák") served nowhere else, in a warren of eight halls and a courtyard beer garden that once drew Bohemia's writers and composers.

There is a 45-minute brewery tour (short history film, the old brewhouse and lager cellar, a tasting) and a small brewery museum, both worth booking ahead.

A few honest notes:

  • It is famous and busy, so it draws tour groups. Go early or on the late side for elbow room.
  • Servers will circulate with trays of Becherovka herbal shots. They are not free, so just wave them off if you do not want one.
  • The kitchen does proper Czech plates (goulash, schnitzel, roast pork) and soft drinks and non-alcoholic options are on the menu, so it works as a historical dining stop whether or not you are drinking.
